Jeff Caruso has become a game changer, of sorts. For decades, Providence-based Crisloid Products Inc. - the firm Caruso has owned for two years - manufactured the boards and pieces for dozens of games and sold them wholesale. And that business model worked.
At its peak, Crisloid employed about 150 people at its South Providence factory.
But not anymore. Like so many other manufacturers, much of the business was lost to Asian competitors that produce cheaper checkers, chess and backgammon sets.
The company's work force dwindled to seven full-time workers.
Now enter Caruso, who purchased the business from his uncle in 2008.

We're proud to announce Ross Gordon, Crisloid-sponsored backgammon champ, has won again! Ross recently played the Pre-Mayors Cup Tourney at the New York Athletics Club on Central Park South, an exclusive members-only establishment. Ross was the underdog at 0-Crawford (match point); he won the Crawford Game and went on to eventually finish the match with a winning Gammon on a 2 cube. Ross finished the night undefeated. When recounting the evening, Ross says "I had some really good competition and was able to emerge the victor; it is a somewhat indescribable feeling."
What a night for Ross Gordon! He tells us "I could not have done it without my Vintage Crisloid Board... the "feel" of the board makes all the difference to the play of the board and nothing compares to the quality and feel of my Crisloid." We're happy to bring players satisfaction and victory year after year. Way to go Ross!

Crisloid.com is now up and running and starting to take shape niclely. Although we've been quiet about its presence, it's incredible how much activity the site is generating.
We've just turned on the Paypal functionality and will be consistantly monitoring and improving this service. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions please do not hesitate to contact us. Of course we stand behind everything we do and will be sure you're satisfied completely.
